Known locally as the Alps Marathon (Maraton Alpe), the loop around the Kamnik-Savinja Alps is renowned as one of Slovenia’s most demanding and scenic cycling challenges. This legendary event, which started back in 2007, now officially goes by the name Alpe Gran Fondo. Its premier PRO route spans the classic 130 km with over 2,000 meters of elevation gain, tackling three iconic alpine passes: Črnivec, Pavličevo Sedlo, and Jezersko. The elite pedigree of this picturesque race is highlighted by past winners Primož Roglič (2012) and Luka Mezgec (2009). If you are not quite ready to take on the full loop, the organizers also offer two shorter routes. Alternatively, you can experience these breathtaking views anytime outside the race weekend—tackling the route at your own pace or breaking it down into a multi-day tour.
